Ballerinas, etc.

In case you missed the Phillips Collection exhibit of Degas Dancers at the Barre: Point and Counterpoint, we have some lovely paintings of ballerinas currently on view at Brazier Gallery.

Degas was known for assiduously observing ballerinas in action, whether backstage, at rehearsal, or simply tying on their pointe shoes.  This exhibition brought over 30 works by Edgar Degas to the well-known Washington D.C. gallery.

Dawn Whitelaw's "Recital" is a beautiful depiction of ballerinas in action.

This painting was part of our 6 x 6 paintings feature, and is still available at the gallery.

Speaking of dancers at the barre, Sylvia Trybek's painting "White Tutu" features a dancer warming up for a performance.  The neutral tones of the painting truly make the white tutu pop.

I grew up with a Degas (a copy, mind you) in my home, and have always loved depictions of ballerinas, whether the medium is painting, sculpture, or photography.

Welcome 2012!

Best wishes for 2012 from Brazier Gallery!

After a whirlwind holiday season, we're excited to announce an upcoming event.  We teamed up with Janet Brown of Janet Brown Interiors to coordinate a talk about incorporating art into your home design.

Janet Brown's eye have made her interior design business successful for over 35 years.

On Wednesday, Jan. 18th at 10:30 am, Janet Brown will be at Brazier Gallery to share specific tips and guidelines on proportion, grouping art and hanging art over wallpaper.   Her knowledge will enhance your confidence in selecting art to bring out the results you desire... whether it is to accent an area, create drama or quiet reflection for a space, or to build an art collection.  It's easier to find oneself in a slump when it comes to decorating, so this is the perfect event to start off your new year!  (plus there will be coffee and breakfast...)
